AnatoMe – Contemporary Dance Class

The spine as a magnificent structure – allows expression to its three functions: weight barring, mobility, and a house to the central nervous system. The spine supports the head (intellect), contains the heart (emotion) and is rooted in the pelvis (physicality/sexuality). It transforms information between the brain and the body, and although not visible from the outside it what gives us the physical presence and manifestation in the world. All behavioral and biological characteristics are embedded in the spine.

Through exploration and understanding of spinal (and body) possibilities, we will connect to the experience of the conscious body and the natural forces around it. Using knowledge from various somatic methods, and inspired by the personal imagination of each dancer – the class – starting with a warm up, through anatomical exploration and a unique fusion of techniques (release, floor-work, modern, developmental movement…) will organically culminate to challenging and exuberant choreographies that changes the experience and perception of the body and the space.
