Elik Niv – Contemporary Dance

A transformative learnign experience is one in which what we learn is vital, relevant, remains with us and broadens our horizons… learning comes from doing, feeling, knowing and communicating with others, experiences which remain with us physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Over the last 10 years, I have been a member of a number of dance troupes on the cutting edge of movement research in Europe. From my time with them I have built a class that draws on the disciplines of modern dance, breakdance, basic acrobatics and more.

My class will focus on:

Partnering – different kinds of movement, bringing the partner to move, weight division, reading the partner’s movement.

Floor work – using our physical structure in order to move more efficiently across the floor, maintaining inertia and energy in motion, entering and leaving the floor from different heights.

Range of motion – separating muscle groups, physical maneuvering, both in pairs and solo.

Rhythm – practicing different rhythms and understanding their importance in creating efficient motion.

Improvisation – using rhythm and physical conditioning to create different qualities of movement and a flow between them.
