Dance Workshop with Gali Kinkulkin (Berlin/Israel)

What is a game? What is a fight? And what is the relation between the two? During this workshop we will explore the seen and unseen possibilities of encounters between two bodies or more.

By neutralizing our verbal abilities and introducing the body to physical elements from different martial arts and games, we will try to realize the hidden potential of new encounters.

We will explore the fine line between a fight, a play and a competition. In order to be able to experience a conflict, without becoming aggressive or violent, we will spend time to prepare the body for a “safe fight”.

We will fool around with children games, competition games, elements from martial arts (such as Capoeira and judo) and partnering work. During the workshop we will get to know and distinguish between the various rules and moves in the different practices and search for the organic transitions from one to the other.

We will be using terms and knowledge from anatomy and physics to grasp the bigger picture of a moving organism, especially in highly physically demanding circumstances. Throughout the workshop we will be working with improvisation, Contact Improvisation, movement sequences and active spectator-passive mover relations. These elements will assist in creating a safe and welcoming environment in order to eventually construct a 'safe arena like zone' where one has the tools and the space to get into a new encounter with the ability to explore its' potentiality.
