Elya Kohn – Vijnana Yoga and Yoga for Women

I teach yoga for women, including during pregnancy and following childbearth, and have been practicing for over a decade. Yoga has helped me discover great strength in my own body as well as teach myself to breathe and be attentive to what my body needs.

The ability to obsever my breath, and through the breath – my desires and my emotions, to experience them as part of myself without allowing them to rule me – this, to me, is the great gift Yoga gives to both women and men. Yoga can exist in every moment of our lives.

Yoga for Women

Change is an integral part of a woman’s life cycle and it contiuously affects both body and mind. Yoga for women, as developed by Mira Arzi Padan, addresses these changes both in the postures and in the intent of the practice.
This practice will help focus and deepen the breath, linking directly to the pelvic muscles and organs and stabilizer muscles, while focusing on movement that is precise and aware. You can begin your practice at any age and any stage of life.

Vijnana Yoga

The word Vijnana means an act of sorting or distinction, understanding, identification, wisdom, knowledge, skill, art, science. “Inner clarity which reveals itself thorugh personal experience” (Orit Sen Gupta).
The physical practice of Yoga, according to the Vijnana philosophy, focuses on clear, precise motion. This, in turn, brings with it the mental practice – the practice of meditation and breath.
Together, we will practice Pranayama (breath), Asana (poses) and meditation (silent sitting), remaining aware as Vijnana teaches us.

Who is this practice for?

Everyone. Anyone who wants to experience the body through inner awareness; to practice precise movement, proper breath and a quiet mind.
