Nieke’s Vinyasa classes are dynamic, playful, creative and explorative, inviting and teaching the students to find their own suitable practice through play and flow, without losing focus on how we can use the yoga practice as a means to heal and reunite body, mind and spirit.
Classes have a holistic approach and incorporate philosophy, pranayama, meditation and mindfulness combined with an extended implementation of modern science on the human body. This allows us to be a bit more free and exploratory in our practice without losing the importance of certain alignment in our asana practice.
Nieke is grateful to and deeply inspired by her direct teachers and the amazing renowned yoga and movement teachers that set the most important fundamentals for movement in the 19th and early 20th century. Not to forget her family, friends, students and others who take this journey with her.
Nieke, a Dutchie born in Kenya and raised in Ecuador and the Netherlands, has had a large interest in movement since a young age. In 2005 she was invited to learn to become a teacher of several movement orientated classes in Amsterdam and Utrecht. She got introduced to yoga in 2007 when attending a body balance teacher training course.
The yoga seeds were planted but only 2 years later the roots grew, when she fractured her spine while naively jumping off a 23 meter cliff. During the recovery process she took the road to healing through Yoga; a road that changed her approach on movement forever.
Over the years Nieke has developed a deep fascination for the genius designed intelligent human body that we live in and how it responses to movement.
Nieke is sharing her practice and teachings with adults and children in The Netherlands, Australia, India and Israel. Keywords for her teaching style are: ease, grace, feel, breath, stability, mobility, core, flow, presence and focus.
