The difference between hip-hop and dancehall is the rhythm. Dancehall is at a much faster tempo and includes reggae within it. Much of what is in hip-hop comes from dancehall but at a slower pace. Dancehall places emphasis on energy and fun. Hip-hop focuses more on technique.
Dancehall is a type of Caribbean music, usually from Jamaica, based on reggae. You can easily identify a dancehall song by the Jamaican accent of the singer. Hip-hop is usually accompanied by a different bass beat and an American style.
